Aging with Vitality Satellite Sept. 19th a SUCCESS!

The Lincoln Branch Library hosted the first Aging with Vitality Satellite event Tuesday September 19th. Participants filled the Balloon Room with excitement and energy to learn about what Graceland is working to achieve in Peoria: a community-based center for older adults to gather, socialize, learn, find about resources, and overall boost their well-being. Daryl Carlson reviewed multiple ways we can protect ourselves from dementia with physical and mental activities, healthy foods, ways to reduce stress, and tips of how to improve our memory. Ideas for programming and activities flowed from the group! Oak Street Health provided an overview of the services they provide to their patients and the public in their gathering space.

One participant remarked “This is what I have been looking for! I used to be a foster grandparent with District 150 and loved working with the children. Since that program stopped, it has been hard to find activities to do!” Another noted “We need this! We need to connect with other people and be more active in learning and taking care of ourselves.”

Graceland has 6 satellite programs planned to reach out into local neighborhoods and help those living nearby to come out and learn what we are working to create for them. We have events planned for November 16th at the West Peoria City Hall, January 18th at the YMCA, March 19th at the Lakeview Library, May 16th at the West Peoria City Hall, and July 8th is still being finalized. See related information on the next satellite November 16th!
