Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging announces Congregate Meals with Neighborhood House!

Congregate Meals with Neighborhood House!

Neighborhood House of Peoria has graciously offered to collaborate with Graceland Center to provide congregate meals for our participants at our twice weekly programming starting in March of 2025! Neighborhood House coordinates the Meals on Wheels program, the home meal delivery program to homebound seniors in Peoria and Tazewell County and hosts several congregate meal sites in and around the Peoria area. Congregate meals offer nutritious, free on-site meals to seniors.

To qualify for a congregate meal, participants:

·      Must be 60 years or older

·      Sign up for the program by filling out a registration sheet

·      Sign the reservation sheet the day BEFORE the meals are served to guarantee a meal for the next day

·      Dine-in personally with the group.

Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging programs are held at the Life Together Center, 3625 N. Sheridan Road, at the side entrance under the green canopy toward the end of the building. There is no cost to patriciate or preregistration for our programs. However, to receive a meal, advance registration on site is required.

Graceland Center has programs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 1-2 pm. Participants may sign up for meals a week in advance during our programming time. Meals will be served by Neighborhood House staff from 11 am to 12 pm. Doors open at 10 am for socialization and stretching exercises for those who would like to participate. Tuesday BINGO will start at 12 pm. Wednesday informational speakers or activities will start at 11:45.

The Meals on Wheels program funding sources include the HOI United Way, Central Illinois Agency on Aging, the Department of Health Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield, participant donations, private donations, and CBDG (Community Development Block Grant) funds. A new menu is prepared each month based on the nutritional guidelines set by the Illinois Department of Aging and may be viewed on the Neighborhood House Website.

Graceland Center’s mission is to enhance the lives of older adults through education, connections to resources and to one another, and innovative ways to promote successful aging. We are excited to join with Neighborhood House to provide nutritious meals to participants as another way to promote the health of older adults in Peoria.

Share with friends and family! We look forward to seeing you there!
