Graceland Center receives a grant check from the Central Illinois Agency on Aging!

The Central Illinois Agency on Aging Board presenting their American Rescue Funding check to Graceland.

The Central Illinois Agency on Aging presented Graceland with its official grant check from American Rescue Funding. This generous grant will underwrite the costs of the weekly Aging with Vitality Programs every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Life Together Center!

As the 8th largest city in Illinois, Peoria is the only city of the top 10 largest cities in Illinois to NOT have a community-based center for older adults. There are over 33,000 adults in the Peoria area over the age of 50. With retirement and life changes, many older adults find themselves a bit of a loss as to what’s next. Family members are often busy and the usual connections we have had change, limiting our social circles. Research clearly indicates that centers for older adults serve as an oasis of friendship, connection, and purpose for many persons.

The effort required to start such an important project is HUGE! The Graceland Center board is confident that Peorians will rise to the occasion and help get this vital programming started on a daily basis. This funding will keep the momentum going as we gain support, find additional funding, and create a demand for what we KNOW will enhance the lives of older adults and improve the well-being of Peoria overall. Thanks to the Central Illinois Agency on Aging for getting us this very-needed boost! Please join us and see for yourself!
